Kokusai
Street is the main street in Naha City, designated as the Tourist City
in Okinawa. During WWII, the center of Naha City was completely destroyed
and eventually it was used as a gathering place for people. Soon after,
a black market was established on the site. The market flourished and
people began calling it as either Kokusai Street or machigwa (market).
The street has come to be regarded as the "Miraculous One Mile"
as well as a symbol of Okinawan postwar rehabilitation. The place is filled
