Makishi Public Market
The machigwa (market) was developed along with Kokusai Street. People who enter the machigwa get attracted to the brilliant colors of different fishes, interesting pork parts and other items for sale. The lifeblood of the machigwa are the obaa (old women) and ojii (old men) who own the stalls and shops. They lived through the devastations of the Second World War and developed Okinawa to what it has become today.
