In 1852,
abused Chinese coolies on the American ship, Robert Baun, killed their
Captain. The ship was wrecked off Ishigaki Island and 380 people landed
in Ishigaki. However, both the English and American military killed and/or
arrested over 100 of these people. Some committed suicide while others
got sick. In 1971, to comfort the soul of these unfortunate dead, some
natives of the island built the Tojin-baka Tomb to commemorate them.Tojin-baka Tomb Related Contents
