Katsuren Castle Ruins
Katsuren Castle was the residence of Lord Amawari, a Katsuren chieftain historically famous for his battle against Lord Gosamaru of the Nakagusuku Castle. Katsuren Castle-registered as part of The World Heritage-is located on a hill of the Yokatsu Peninsula, the central part of Okinawa Main Island, and is estimated to have been built around the 12th or the 13th century. Lord Amawari gained the support of local people through his success in foreign trade and in his other economic and social endeavors.
