The Landing Monument of Tametomo Minamoto
Tametomo Minamoto was a samurai in the late 12th century in mainland Japan. He was exiled to Izu Island after his defeat in battle. Legend says that he arrived at Port Unten after he escaped from Izu Island and "trusted his fortunes to heaven" when he was met by a typhoon. Port Unten, which literally means "fortune and heaven," was fittingly where the samurai's monument was built in 1922.
