Nakijin Castle Ruins
In the 14th and 15th centuries, Okinawa was divided into three major kingdoms: Nanzan, Chuzan and Hokuzan. Nakijin Castle, the base castle of the Hokuzan king, was said to be difficult to attack. It was built from Ryukyu limestone reaching about 100 meters high, covered an area of about 50,000 square meters, consisted of 9 enclosures, and had walls that ranged in a complicated way. Today, the place is famous for viewing cherry blossoms in January and is already registered as part of the World Heritage.
