The Tori
Pond in this island that is connected to the sea is associated with some
legends. One legend claims that the pond was formed a long time ago, when
a mermaid-mother directed a tsunami to devastate a village in order to
get back her daughter who was caught by a local man. Another version says
that there was a mother who accidentally killed her real child-instead
of her stepchild as she planned-by dropping the child into the pond. The
dark blue surface of the pond and the tsunami that visited the island
in the distant past may have fueled the creation of these legends; nevertheless,
