Tamagusuku Castle Ruins
Tamagusuku Castle-built about the 13th or 14th century supposedly by the founder god, Amamikiyo-is located on a Ryukyu limestone hill that is 10 meters high. A round gate carved from a natural stone is a unique feature of the castle.
Originally composed of three enclosures, the castle now has only the walls of one enclosure as reminder of its former magnificence. The walls of the other two enclosures were used as building material for the US military base put up in Okinawa after WWII.
