Residence of the Nakamura Family
The residence of the Nakamura Family has all the distinctive features of an Okinawan house building. It was built in the mid-18th century but part of its structure was patterned after the Japanese construction styles from the 12th to the 14th century. The residence stands unique in Okinawa today since its owners have resisted the popular trend of modernization by retaining the building's traditional structure. The building has thus become a valuable socio-cultural and historical asset for it gives a glimpse of the lifestyle of ancient upper-class Okinawan farmers.
